Chan is the Senior Partner in charge of both the Northern Region and Federal Territory Office and was called to the Malaysian Bar in 1997. He has a wide -ranging practice with particular emphasis on professional negligence, commercial, land and construction disputes specializing in Appellate Advocacy in most areas of law.
He has acted as Lead Counsel in a number of leading cases appearing before the Appellate Courts for and on behalf of banking and financial institutions and members of professional bodies from both the Architectural and Engineering fields. A number of these cases have been reported in the Malaysian Law Journals. Among the notable cases are his successful representation in defending a Major Financial Institution against a claim of RM 100 million and representing another at the Federal Court on an issue of defeasibility of a Charge security over a property due to its Malay Reserve Land Status.
He has also successfully represented a member of the Malaysian Institute of Architect (Northern Chapter) in the State Commission Inquiry involving the collapse of a retaining wall at the Granito Project.
His practice also sees him provide advisory to Joint Management Committees for stratified housing accommodation and appearing before the Local Council Tribunals, Appeals Board and in Arbitration proceedings.
His recent cases in both the High Court and Appellate Court includes litigation involving representation as Lead Counsel for a major engineering company on a construction dispute, Judicial Review on a matter pertaining to development land conditions and planning permission approvals and on compliance with the Town and Country Planning Act 1976, a RM50 million lease tenancy contractual dispute involving a foreign corporation, issues involving Stateless Children applying for Citizenship and Corporate Rescue Advisory involving Judicial Management, Corporate Voluntary Arrangement and Scheme of Arrangements.
More recently, he has been issued a fiat to act as Lead Counsel to represent the Kedah State Government at the Appellate Court in a land dispute involving the acquisition and compensation of land.
